Gore TV: "I swear, it's not liberal TV!"

Former scorched-earth presidental wannabe Al Gore is starting a TV network called "Current", to be available on a subscription basis. For those of you in blue states, that means you have to pay extra for it.

According to the AP article:
Gore, who narrowly lost the 2000 presidential election to George W. Bush, has publicly complained about the number of conservative voices dominating the airwaves.

"We have no intention of being a Democratic channel, a liberal channel or the TV version of Air America," Gore said, referring to the fledgling liberal radio network. "It is not in any way an ideological, much less partisan point of view in any respect. It will have the point of view of the young generation."
Yep, those old conservatives control the media, alright. I mean, aside from CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, Air America, Oxygen, BBC, al Jazeera, and 95% of the daily newspapers...where is a poor old liberal supposed to go to get his views heard or his "unbiased" news? What Gore and his ilk mean by "conservative voices dominating the airwaves" is simply Fox News and talk radio. Since when is TWO outlets considered "dominating"? Because it's two more than liberals would like.

So Gore complains about this faux conservative "dominance", then in the next breath insists that Current will not be a liberal network. Then why are the backers a "Who's Who" of liberal elites?

  • Joel Hyatt, the founder of Hyatt Legal Services who will serve as Current's chief executive.

  • David Neuman, Current's president of programming, whose resume includes stints at CNN and Walt Disney Television. That's CNN...enough said. That's Disney, i.e. ABC and Peter Jennings, i.e. the company that mandated benefits for "domestic partners" (unmarried shack-ups).

  • Sergey Brin, the 31-year-old co-founder of Google. While no one knows his leanings, it's hard to believe that Google employees (who gave $207,650 to federal candidates for last year's elections, up from just $250 in 2000) gave 98% of their donations to Democrats without some prodding from the top of the Google culture. And considering that CEO Eric Schmidt gave $25,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee...well, draw your own conclusions.

So I can't even begin to fathom why Gore would think anyone could at all possibly believe that his network is going to be liberal!
