British schools remove Churchill from history, add global "warming"

The wussification of the UK continues. From the Sun via Michelle Malkin:
FURY erupted last night after Sir Winston Churchill was axed from school history lessons.

Britain’s cigar-chomping World War Two PM — famed for his two-finger victory salute — was removed from a list of figures secondary school children must learn about.

Instead they will be taught about “relevant” issues such as global warming and drug dangers. Churchill’s grandson, Tory MP Nicholas Soames, branded the move “total madness.”

The decision to axe Churchill is part of a major shake-up aimed at dragging the national curriculum into the 21st century, it was claimed last night.

But the plan — hatched by advisers — angered schools secretary Ed Balls, who vowed to probe ALL the changes to the curriculum.

The proposals will see traditional timetables torn up, with pupils focusing on modern “relevant” topics such as drug and booze abuse, climate change and GM foods.

Churchill — voted the greatest ever Briton — goes off the required lessons list, along with Hitler, Gandhi, Stalin and Martin Luther King.

There will also be no need to mention the Wars of the Roses, Elizabeth I or Henry VIII.

Looks like the NEA here in America has gotten a hold of schools abroad, as well.

"Fat tax" could "save lives"?

Those crazy Euros are at it again. From al-Reuters:
A "fat tax" on salty, sugary and fatty foods could save thousands of lives each year, according to a study published on Thursday.

Researchers at Oxford University say that charging Value Added Tax (VAT) at 17.5 percent on foods deemed to be unhealthy would cut consumer demand and reduce the number of heart attacks and strokes.

The purchase tax is already levied on a small number of products such as potato crisps, ice cream, confectionery and chocolate biscuits, but most food is exempt.

The move could save an estimated 3,200 lives in Britain each year, according to the study in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health.

"A well-designed and carefully-targeted fat tax could be a useful tool for reducing the burden of food-related disease," the study concluded.

The team from Oxford's Department of Public Health said higher taxes have already been imposed on cigarettes and alcohol to encourage healthy living.

...and those taxes have been failures at that for which they were intended. We have cig and booze taxes here, too, with similar results: millions of people still smoke and drink. All these silly "sin taxes" do is line the pockets of Big Guvmint. Besides, if that 20 oz. cold one at AJ's Sports Bar costs $3.00, would you order fewer if the suggested 17.5% tax were added, bringing the total to $3.53? Me neither.

Aside from the obvious "Nanny State" argument, there's another argument to be made here. Whenever government gets it mitts on our money through taxes on cigarettes or alcohol, they almost always say that they will use the tax money on health insurance government programs, usually for kids. Well, what if the purported desired effect is achieved, i.e. more people finally quit smoking or drinking? That would, by default, mean less money would be available to fund these new health insurance programs! Gasp! Why, how could you former smokers and former drinkers be so selfish as to deprive children of their health care? Do your patriotic duty, by God (insert deity of preference here) and get out there and destroy your own health so you can fund the programs that preserve the health of others!

I work out and eat healthy foods because I choose to do so. If you don't live similarly, then who in the Sam Hill would I be to demand that you do? I would be Big Guvmint, that's who.

MSM fuzzy math

Oh, those crazy Euros:
The stereotype of men as being strong and silent, and women as talkative and gossipy, has been overturned by a detailed study of how many words they utter every day.

As well as showing that when it comes to yakking, men chat just as much as women, it also reveals that women’s conversations are more about people, relationships and networking, whereas men’s tend to be more about showing off, tools or cars.
...
To catch all of their chit-chat, they developed an electronically-activated recorder that digitally, and unobtrusively, logged their conversations.

The results: women in the study spoke a daily average of 16,215 words during their waking hours, versus an average of 15,669 words for men.

Now while I did go to Florida State (so cut me some slack), I'm pretty sure the remedial math course I took four times did manage to properly convey that 16,215 > 15,669. In other words, the study puportedly debunks the claim that women talk more than men by showing that...uh...women talk more than men.

I wonder if math is considered "right-wing" the same way jogging is? If so, that would explain the Euros' screw-up in this article.

Germany bans Tom Cruise film location because...

...Cruise is a member of the cult "religion" known as Scientology. From al-Reuters:
Germany has barred the makers of a movie about a plot to kill Adolf Hitler from filming at German military sites because its star Tom Cruise is a Scientologist, the Defense Ministry said on Monday.

Cruise, also one of the film's producers, is a member of the Church of Scientology which the German government does not recognize as a church. Berlin says it masquerades as a religion to make money, a charge Scientology leaders reject.

The U.S. actor has been cast as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, leader of the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate the Nazi dictator in July 1944 with a bomb hidden in a briefcase.

Defense Ministry spokesman Harald Kammerbauer said the film makers "will not be allowed to film at German military sites if Count Stauffenberg is played by Tom Cruise, who has publicly professed to being a member of the Scientology cult".

With all due respect to anyone here who may be Scientologists, I have no respect for your "religion" at all and I think that Tom Cruise is a crazy couch-jumping weirdo. However, I don't think I'm being out of line by saying that Germany's decision to ban the filming of Cruise's film is stupid as heck and typical of warped Euro thinking.

I mean, if Cruise were an atheist, Buddhist, Muslim, Pagan, Rastafarian, or even Christian, would Germany care? Would Germany care if Cruise were an actual real-life Nazi? Probably not. But because he belongs to a "religion" that they don't like, then it becomes a problem for him to film a movie in their country? A movie that, in all probability, doesn't even reference Scientology? That's just messed up!

Those Euros are an odd bunch, aren't they?

"Time Out London heralds the dawn of the Islamic British utopia"

I'm still trying to figure out of the column is a joke or not. The UK has been slouching towards dhimmitude, so it may not be that far-fetched to think this guy's serious. I happen to think he is. Anywho, from Hot Air:
...you have to read it to believe it. It’s a whitewash for the ages, beginning with a sneering dismissal of right-wing worries about a “society where women are second-class citizens, same sex relationships a crime and Sharia law enforces terrible public disfigurement and death” and segueing into section by section hosannas to the genius of Islamic civilization.

From the prostration during prayers, which keeps the joints supple, to the health benefits of banning alcohol and enforcing halal dietary laws to the “revolutionary effect” it would have on education and self-discipline if schools had a little more of a madrassa vibe to them, we’re in for a golden age, kids.

Through it all, two themes recur: the author’s blithe insistence that any failings in the Islamic world are due to “social factors,” not religion, and the contempt he shows for his own culture, most notably in his description of eating habits and the genuinely astonishing assertion that London on balance will become “a little less cruel” thanks to the compulsory donations to charity. As for the section on inter-faith relations and “the guiding hand of Islam,” the less said, the better.

I do like how he regards concerns about this scenario as being exclusively the province of the right-wing, though. Too true, my friends, too true.

Read this "jawdropper", as LGF describes it:
Race relations
Under Islam all ethnicities are equal. Once you have submitted to Allah you are a Muslim – it doesn’t matter what colour you are. End of story.

Oh. My. Allah. I may have just officially seen it all. "All you have to do is abandon whatever faith, if any, you currently have and submit to Allah. Life's a bowl of cherries henceforth.

Un-freakin'-believable.

Germans to track moonbats by smell

It looks like the whole "smelly hippie" thing isn't just a stereotype after all! Hat tip to Van Helsing at Moonbattery:
German authorities have discovered the obvious when it comes to fighting moonbats: tracking them by smell.

The tactic will be used to keep track of the odoriferous left-wing types likely to use next month's Group of Eight summit in Heiligendamm as a pretext to riot in protest against economic freedom. Scent samples will allow police dogs to zero in on the likely instigators if violence breaks out.

Moonbat scent samples might also have chemical warfare applications.

Here's guessing that the cops' patchouli-sniffing K-9's will be going crazier than a blind gay dude at the San Francisco Bean-Eating Contest.

Why I miss John Bolton

Man, this is pure gold! From EU Referendum:
It is not often one whoops with joy listening to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme, but Jon Humphrys interviewing John Bolton, former US ambassador to the UN, this morning was a sheer delight. (You can listen to the piece here.)

From Humphrys we got the usual BBC droning, with forthright responses from Bolton. Eventually though, after a run of sneering negativity over Iraq, Bolton had had enough. What did it was the suggestion that the US was "a busted flush", Humphrys calling in aid George Soros.

"Are you kidding me!", responded Bolton. "This is a man of the extreme left. I am sure you will find a great deal in common with him, as would many others on the continent."

A sniffy Humphrys was not going to take that lying down though. On the attack, he demanded: "Do you make the assumption then that because one asks questions – perfectly valid questions about the conduct of American policy - one is on the extreme left?"

Bolton was unfazed: "I can see it from the content of your questions and the perspective from which you're coming and from the direction that your questions are taking. If you tell me you're a conservative, I would be happy to accept it."

That really got Humphrys going: "I would tell you that I'm neither conservative, nor left wing not right wing, nor middle wing, because..."

A laughing Bolton took that in his stride: "You have no views at all. Your brain is empty, you have no views at all..."

Attempting to muster all his majesty, Humphrys was almost squeaking in indignation: "I have an awful lot of views, Ambassador, a view for every subject under the sun but I don't express them during the course of my interviews. (I needed a beverage alert for THAT statement! Now I have to clean the Diet Dr. Pepper off of my monitor after reading that laughable statement! - Ed.) I ask questions... That's what interviewing is about... You'll have heard of a thing called devil's advocate... Maybe they don't do it like that in the United States, but..."

"I know, you're a superior Brit as well!" rejoins Bolton.

You can see why he really pissed them off at the UN.

Yeah, referring to Moveon bigwig George Freakin' Soros as an objective outsider who has issues with the war in Iraq shouldn't call into question a reporter's objectivity, should it? No liberal media bias!

Why can't any of our "leaders" (and I use that term loosely) be as savage with the bedwetting leftist MSM as Bolton was with this Europinko?

Euros to criminalize Holocaust denial

Any time a leftard says how the Euros are so much more "evolved" than Americans, I roll my eyes in disgust and disbelief. I can easily rebut such a ludicrous claim, and stories like this make rebuttal even easier. From the Financial Times:
Laws that make denying or trivialising the Holocaust a criminal offence punishable by jail sentences will be introduced across the European Union, according to a proposal expecting to win backing from ministers Thursday.

Offenders will face up to three years in jail under the proposed legislation, which will also apply to inciting violence against ethnic, religious or national groups.

I certainly don't have a problem with criminalizing the inciting of a riot, and I wish we had a law like that here in the States. Oh, wait...we DO have such a law, don't we? It just applies to everyone not named "Sharpton"! My bad. But I digress.

I most certainly have a problem with criminalizing people saying stupid things like "The Holocaust never happened"! While such idiots are certainly worthy of our contempt and scorn, throwing someone in jail for being a moron is going a bit far. If we had such a law here, many of our politicians would be in jail. Hmmmm...I'm kind of undermining my own point, aren't I? (For those of you on the left, that was a joke.)

Wait a minute! Something just dawned on me. Recall how Ellen Goodman of the Boston Goob said that global "warming" skeptics were the same as Holocaust deniers? Well, I'm a global "warming" skeptic, so I wonder if that would make me a criminal were I to ever grace the Euros with my presence? I should probably be quiet about that, so as not to give the Euros any more bright ideas like this one.

What is it about freedom that stumps the Euros so badly?

Predictably, moonbats blame Bush for VT shootings

The only surprise is that it took this long. Via Hot Air:
Keith Olbermann tried to blame President Bush and the Republican Congress for yesterday’s massacre because they “allowed” a ban on 9mm clips like the one used to murder 32 people to expire. Transcript:
At least one of the weapons used by the shooter is believed, as we said, to be in nine millimeter semi-automatic pistol, which would be like this one, with a clip designed to hold more than 10 shots. Clips like those were banned under the Assault Weapons Law of 1994, but Congress and President Bush allowed that law to expire more than two years ago.

Confederate Yankee points out one small problem with Blabberman's observation:
High-capacity magazines have been around for more than half a century, and the sale of high-capacity magazines was not impacted whatsoever by the 1994 Crime Bill. These magazines were freely and commercially available, both in retail stores and online, without interruption, for the 10-year life of the ban, the decades preceding it, and afterward.

Blabberman, you may want to go ahead and issue that correction, so both of your viewers will be up to speed.

Geez, if it's not American moonbats blaming Bush, it's those idiot Euros blaming Charlton Heston. Exit question: did we export moonbattery to other countries, or did we import it from other countries?

Euro governments: You can't name your child that!

The Euros sure have been giving me a lot of material lately. Hat tip to Michelle Malkin:
Item number one: Couple fights to name baby 'Metallica'
Michael and Karolina Tomaro are locked in a court battle with Swedish authorities, which rejected their application to name their six-month-old child after the legendary rock band.
"It suits her," Karolina Tomaro, 27, said Tuesday of the name. "She's decisive and she knows what she wants."

Although little Metallica has already been baptized, the Swedish National Tax Board refused to register the name, saying it was associated with both the rock group and the word "metal."

Tomaro said the official handling the case also called the name "ugly."

Item number two: Appeal over baby named Jihad
The German interior ministry is appealing against a decision by the Berlin authorities to allow an Islamist to name his son Jihad, the Arabic word used for holy war. Reda Seyam fought for 18 months for permission to give his sixth child the name after the registry in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg initially rejected his application, saying the name was inappropriate because of its association with terrorism, and "may endanger the child".

Ok, while I'm not a fan of either of those names, I am even more creeped out by these European laws regulating what parents name their babies.

She's right. Let the parents name the kids whatever the hell they want. Their kids would be guaranteed frequent @sskickings, wedgies, and stolen lunch money with names like "Metallica" and "Jihad". Then again, with names like that, they could always come to the US and get elected to public office in San Fran-istan when they grow up.

Nanny state government at its finest, huh?

Why I love the Aussies

Over the last couple of years, the Australians have done a lot of things that have endeared themselves to me: defending the decision to invade Iraq, telling their Muslim population to assimilate or hit the road, etc. Well, add one more to the list: trashing the Euros. From Oz:
Australian Prime Minister John Howard fired a broadside at the European Union Tuesday for criticising his climate change policy, saying it should get its own house in order before attacking others.
The counter-strike came a day after EU Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas accused Australia of having a "negative attitude" and refusing to sign the Kyoto Protocol on climate change for political reasons rather than economic ones.

But Howard, who is under intense domestic pressure ahead of elections later this year over what critics claim was a failure by his government to tackle climate change, would have none of it.

"You've got the spokesman for a group of countries lecturing us about not having signed Kyoto," he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

"Yet the great bulk of the countries on whose behalf he speaks are falling well behind their Kyoto targets and are doing less well in meeting them," he fumed.

"Our answer to the spokesman for the European Union is: Look to your own affairs, get your countries complying with the targets you have proclaimed," Howard said.
...
"We should be very wary of European lectures on this issue," he said.

Ouch! Nicely done, Mr. Howard! If I ever have an Alec Baldwin moment (but actually folow through with the threat) and decide to leave the country if the Hildebeast gets elected, Oz will be the first place I contemplate.

UK to drop Holocaust from history so as not to piss off Muslims

As the UK continues slouching towards dhimmitude, I have to wonder if Ellen Goodman applauds the Euros for reinforcing Muslims' Holocaust denial attitudes. From the Limeys:
Schools are dropping the Holocaust from history lessons to avoid offending Muslim pupils, a Governmentbacked study has revealed.

It found some teachers are reluctant to cover the atrocity for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial.

Hallelujah! Maybe I can use the same approach and get ESPN and CNNSI to stop reporting that Florida won their second straight basketball title last night! You know, I'm so mortified that I am offended and will resort to denial...and thus, it is to be stricken from the news and the record books. (Sidebar: this is NOT an invitation to discuss the game, as I'm trying to make a point here, people!)

Anywho, continuing:
There is also resistance to tackling the 11th century Crusades - where Christians fought Muslim armies for control of Jerusalem - because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques.

In other words, mosques are teaching lies about the Holocaust and the Crusades, and the UK propaganda centers (formerly known as "schools") are going to accommodate said lies. Well, hell, why even have history class then? At least rename it "revisionist history class"! Continuing:
The findings have prompted claims that some schools are using history 'as a vehicle for promoting political correctness'.

The study, funded by the Department for Education and Skills, looked into 'emotive and controversial' history teaching in primary and secondary schools.

It found some teachers are dropping courses covering the Holocaust at the earliest opportunity over fears Muslim pupils might express anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class.

I suppose the teachers should be thankful if the Muslim pupils resort to freely spouting what they already think, rather than spouting "Allahu Akhbar!" before self-detonating.

This part is particularly galling:
The report concluded: "In particular settings, teachers of history are unwilling to challenge highly contentious or charged versions of history in which pupils are steeped at home, in their community or in a place of worship."

Don't we usually hear from the P.C. promoters that students who are raised in conservative households need to have their "narrow-minded" horizons broadened in schools? Obviously, favored groups in the P.C. movement are allowed to have their own "narrow-minded" views that are to be left "unbroadened" for fear of offending them.

Fortunately, at least one of the Brits gets it:
Chris McGovern, history education adviser to the former Tory government, said: "History is not a vehicle for promoting political correctness. Children must have access to knowledge of these controversial subjects, whether palatable or unpalatable."

Apparently, sir, children should only have access to that knowledge if they are not on the P.C. Hyper-sensitivity List. Subject kids to "unpalatable" facts? That's just crazy talk! Hell, leftist adults don't need "unpalatable" facts, so why should Muslim kids (or any other kids, for that matter)?

German divorce court judge cites Koran in justifying Muslim domestic violence

The Euros are spiraling down a road of dhimmitude that will be nearly impossible from which to return. From Germany:
He beat her and threatened her with murder. But because husband and wife were both from Morocco, a German divorce court judge saw no cause for alarm. It's a religion thing, she argued.

The case seems simply too strange to be true. A 26-year-old mother of two wanted to free herself from what had become a miserable and abusive marriage. The police had even been called to their apartment to separate the two -- both of Moroccan origin -- after her husband got violent in May 2006. The husband was forced to move out, but the terror continued: Even after they separated, the spurned husband threatened to kill his wife.

A quick divorce seemed to be the only solution -- the 26-year-old was unwilling to wait the year between separation and divorce mandated by German law. She hoped that as soon as they were no longer married, her husband would leave her alone. Her lawyer, Barbara Becker-Rojczyk agreed and she filed for immediate divorce with a Frankfurt court last October. They both felt that the domestic violence and death threats easily fulfilled the "hardship" criteria necessary for such an accelerated split.

In January, though, a letter arrived from the judge adjudicating the case. The judge rejected the application for a speedy divorce by referring to a passage in the Koran that some have controversially interpreted to mean that a husband can beat his wife. It's a supposed right which is the subject of intense debate among Muslim scholars and clerics alike."The exercise of the right to castigate does not fulfill the hardship criteria as defined by Paragraph 1565 (of German federal law)," the daily Frankfurter Rundschau quoted the judge's letter as saying. It must be taken into account, the judge argued, that both man and wife have Moroccan backgrounds.

"The husband can beat his wife"

"The right to castigate means for me: the husband can beat his wife," Becker-Rojczyk said, interpreting the judge's verdict.

In an interview with SPIEGEL ONLINE, Becker-Rojczyk said the judge indicated to her that it makes no sense to insist on an accelerated divorce. The judge's advice? Wait for the year-long waiting period to elapse.

The lawyer and her client were shocked. Immediately, they filed a claim alleging that the judge should have recused herself due to a conflict of interest. They felt that, because of the point of view presented by the judge, she was unable to reach an objective verdict. In the reply sent to Becker-Rojczyk, the judge expressly referred to a Koran verse -- or sura -- which indicates that a man's honor is injured when his wife behaves in an unchaste manner. "Apparently the judge deems it unchaste when my client adapts a Western lifestyle," Becker-Rojczyk said.

Fortunately, the judge appears to have p#ssed in the wrong pot:
On Tuesday evening, Becker-Rojczyk expressed amazement that the judge was still on the bench, given that the controversial verdict was handed down weeks ago. Becker-Rojczyk had elected to go public with the case to attract attention to the judge's conduct. It seems to have worked. On Wednesday, after the Tuesday evening publication of the story on SPIEGEL ONLINE, the attorney received a fax from the Frankfurt court granting the conflict of interest claim and excusing the judge from the case.

Still, it is unlikely that the case will be heard again before the mandated year of separation expires in May. But the judge who heard the case may have to face further consequences for her decision. On Wednesday, numerous politicians in Berlin voiced their horror at the verdict -- and demanded disciplinary action against the judge.

"In my opinion, this is a case of extreme violation of the rule of law that can't be solved with a mere conflict of interest ruling," Social Democrat parliamentarian Dieter Wiefelspütz told SPIEGEL ONLINE. "There have to be further consequences. This is a case for judicial supervision -- this case needs to be further investigated."

The deputy floor leader for the Christian Democrats, Wolfgang Bosbach, agreed. "This is a sad example of how the conception of the law from another legal and cultural environment is taken as the basis for our own notion of law," he said on Wednesday.

This isn't the first time that German courts have used cultural background to inform their verdicts. Christa Stolle of the women's rights organization Terre des Femmes said that in cases of marital violence, there have been a number of cases where the perpetrator's culture of origin has been considered as a mitigating circumstance -- although such verdicts have become seldom in recent years.

But there remains quite a bit of work to do. "In my work educating sexist and short-sighted Muslim men," asked Michaela Sulaika Kaiser of the Network for Muslim Women, "do I now have to convince German courts that women are also people on the same level with men and that they, like any other human, have the right to be protected from physical and psychological violence?"

And the libs tell us that we should mimic the Euros? Thanks, but no thanks!

Animal rights group: Kill the polar bear cub!

When it's not the evil Bu$hitler McRummyburton trying to kill off the polar bears with the dastardly Rovian global "warming" polar ice cap melting machine, it's...an animal rights activist trying to kill polar bears? From the Euros:
Tiny, fluffy and adorable, Knut the baby polar bear became an animal superstar after he was abandoned by his mother.

He rapidly became the symbol of Berlin Zoo, whose staff bottle-fed him and handed out cuddles in between.

At three months old, however, the playful 19lb bundle of fur is at the centre of an impassioned debate over whether he should live or die.

Animal rights activists argue that he should be given a lethal injection rather than brought up suffering the humiliation of being treated as a domestic pet.

"The zoo must kill the bear," said spokesman Frank Albrecht. "Feeding by hand is not species-appropriate but a gross violation of animal protection laws."

When Knut was born in December, his mother ignored him and his brother, who died. Zoo officials intervened, choosing to raise the cub themselves.

But Albrecht and other activists fret that it is inappropriate for a predator, known for its fierceness and ability to fend for itself in the wild, to be snuggled, bottle-fed and made into a commodity by zookeepers.
...
But Berlin Zoo holds different opinions. Its chief vet Andre Schuele says the activists' criticisms would make him angry if he could take them seriously. "Polar bears live alone in the wild. I see no logical reason why this bear should be killed."

Schuele also argued that given the increased rarity of wild polar bears, it makes sense to keep them alive in captivity so that they can be bred. "Polar bears are under threat of extinction, and if we feed the bear with a bottle, it has a good chance of growing up and perhaps becoming attractive as a stud for other zoos," he said.

What is it with these animal "rights" idiots that make them thirsty for the blood of animals? I mean, they want us to stop eating meat because "meat is murder", right? Apparently, killing animals is hunky-dory, so long as you don't eat them. Oooooooo-kay then.

Knut...marked for death by the animal "rights" nuts!

Icelandic beauty pageant...not your mama's pageant!

Those crazy Euros are at it again! From AFP:
An alternative beauty pageant to be held in a remote Icelandic town will reward contestants' wrinkles, saggy breasts and other bodily imperfections and hopes to challenge Western ideas of beauty, organisers said Wednesday.

Word has it that upon hearing this news, a planeload of Palm Beach condo commandos took off for Reykjavik at the conclusion of Agnes Schloppel's "Bluehair Bingo Bonanza". Try saying that five times really fast! Anywho, continuing:
"Anyone can make the rules about what beauty is, we want to change the rules," one of the contest's organisers, Matthhildur Helgadottir, told AFP.

Yeah, good luck with that. This is amusing:
The only other stipulation was that contestants had not gone under the plastic surgeon's knife for cosmetic reasons.

There are people out there who have cosmetic surgery to give themselves saggy breasts and wrinkles? Wow...who'd have thunk it?

Finally, we get some answers as to what infection festered in the mind of this organizer:
The idea for the contest emerged while Helgadottir -- a self-confessed feminist -- was talking with friends in an Isafjoerdur pub.

You know, if I had a nickel for every time I heard of an Icelandic feminist coming up with a great idea, I'd...well, I wouldn't have a nickel. Come to think of it, if I had a nickel for every time I heard of an Icelandic feminist, I wouldn't have a nickel!

Global "warming" now giving Euro kids nightmares

Thanks to everyone for your kind words yesterday. They are much appreciated.

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Damn that George W. Bush! His evil Rovian Climate Zapper is now frightening those poor kids in Europe! Does this man's evil know no bounds? From the Euroweenies:
Global warming concerns are keeping children awake at night

Half of young children are anxious about the effects of global warming, often losing sleep because of their concern, according to a new report today.

A survey of 1,150 youngsters aged between seven and 11 found that one in four blamed politicians for the problems of climate change.
And you thought the education system in America was rotting the brains of kids? I can see it now: It's 2:00 a.m. Little Raoul wakes up in bed, screaming his little head off. Papa runs in and asks him if he's seen the three-eyed thong-clad Helen Thomas monster in his closet again. Raoul weeps and whimpers "No, Papa! It was even scarier! It was...(sniffle, sob)...a dream about global 'warming'! And even you couldn't save me, Papa!"

The story even mentions that while "most of those polled understood the benefits of recycling, ... one in 10 thought the issue was linked to riding a bike." I don't know that I really need to add anything else to that!

"London Prison Changes Direction of Toilets in Respect to Islamic Law"

Euro dhimmitude continues. From The Sun (hat tip to Kanaka Girl):
Toilets in one London prison are getting a face-lift — or rather, a change in direction — to accommodate Muslim inmates who can't use them while facing Mecca, a British newspaper reported.

Government officials ackowledged using tax dollars for the changes to the facilities, but maintained that moving the toilets was part of "on-going refurbishment," according to an article in The Sun.

Islamic code prohibits Muslims from facing or turning their backs on the direction of prayer when they use the bathroom. Muslim prisoners complained of having to sit sideways on toilets so as to not break code.

Faith leaders in the government pressured officials to approve turning the toilets 90 degrees at HMP Brixton in London.

A Muslim American rights worker commended the London prison system for their actions, but said the problem, so far, doesn't appear to be an issue in the U.S.

"There have been very significant and numerous complaints at U.S. prisons on issues of regulating hygiene and respect for dietary laws," said Ibrahim Ramey, director of human and civil rights work for Muslim America Society. However, Ramey said he was unaware of any specific complaints regarding the direction of toilets in U.S. prisons.
Just so I'm understanding this correctly:

You can blow up a busload of Jews, self-detonate in an Israeli café, decapitate a few infidels, and Allah is pleased. But if you sh#t facing the wrong way, you're frying in Hell? Ooooooooooooo-kay then.

What if you need to go to the bathroom on an airplane? Should the pilot change course in mid-air to accommodate your defication needs? Or do you hold your dung (and decapitate the insensitive infidel later)?

Here in America, we see things every day to indicate that we're becoming a nation of p#ssies. However, even we don't do anything as stupid as rearranging toilet directions in prisons just to make Muslims happy.

Hey, I've got a brilliant idea! If you're a Muslim in America, and you're afraid that you'll wind up in prison and jeopardize your soul's final destination because you might "drop a line to headquarters" while facing the wrong way...how about, oh I dunno, not winding up in prison in the first place? You know, "obeying the law" and that kind of crazy shizit?
